Northbrook has standards for both its students and faculty.
Our Students are expected to strive for their highest level of personal success through:
-
Self-organization. Students learn to maintain academic binders which include schedules, calendars, and assignment notebooks. The usage of an organizational system will be taught and then students will be held responsible for its maintenance.
-
Self-discipline. Students learn that they are ultimately in charge of their own success. We will demonstrate the benefits of self-discipline and reward personal successes. Our Student of the Month Awards Program gives students the opportunity to earn recognition for their demonstration of outstanding personal achievement in either academics or arts (mind), athletics (body), or citizenship (spirit). As needed, we will also use a three tier discipline system to discourage behaviors which will detour our students' success. Should behaviors continue to erode despite attempts to redirect a student, matriculation will be in jeopardy.
- PST Teamwork. PST is our code for the triangular relationship that exists in the learner's environment, it is the team made up of the Parents (or guardians), the Student, and the Teachers. It has been proven that success comes when this team is working together to reach the same goals. We hold the team responsible for communication, collaboration, and coordination of the learning expectations.
Our Faculty are expected to strive for their highest level of professional success through:
-
Class-organization. Teachers will create learning environments which encourage discovery, explore new concepts, promote development from introduction to mastery and allow creativity. They will make clear their expectations for their classes and their individual learners. They will be responsible for a classroom community of learners who value individual differences and respect one another.
-
Professional Development. Teachers will be held accountable for maintaining the highest standards for their own professional development. We monitor their professionalism and offer programs to promote continuous learning. We encourage full participation in the community and reward actions which are measurable contributions to the Northbrook Experience.
- PST Teamwork. Again, PST is our code for the triangular relationship that exists in the learner's environment; it is the team made up of the Parents (or guardians), the Student, and the Teachers. It has been proven that success comes when this team is working together to reach the same goals. We hold the team responsible for communication, collaboration, and coordination of the learning expectations.
