Each year the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston recognizes middle school students for the difference they have made in their communities through service projects.
This year two local students who both attend Northbrook Academy will be awarded personalized certificates honoring their civic contributions. Receiving these prestigious honors are Lexie Williams, a seventh grade student from Lakeville and Nick Hamilton, an eighth grade student from Norton.
Lexie’s contribution to the community culminated with her aggressive effort in motivating everyone she knew to participate in a walk for the Jimmy Fund. As a result she also walked over 13 miles and personally raised $1000 dollars. All the money Lexie helped raise goes to help fund low grade brain tumor research. Being able to help contribute funding for this research is very important to Lexie and many other health care patients. Lexie has been receiving treatment for this condition since she was age eight.
Nick has sponsored and participated in the “Relay For Life” for three years. In his first year Nick organized his church members into teams for a successful Walk For Life. Nick has continued to organize and contribute to this program for the last three years.
Lexie and Nick attend Northbrook Academy where trying your best is a way of life for middle school students. Both students were nominated for this award by the school’s Headmaster Paul Harrison. An award ceremony to recognize all the recipients of this honor will be held later this month at the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston.

Captain Merick Explains Dolphins in the Military What an amazing experience! Northbrook students were honored to host Captain Merick, who, while a commanding naval officer, worked with dolphins in the US Naval Marine Mammal Program. For the students, this was an opportunity to hear first hand about the intelligence of dolphins --which follows through on their study of dolphins after reading, The Music of Dolphins by Karen Hesse. Captain Merick made a multi-media presentation which engaged the students into thinking about the ways dolphins are superior to humans (their abilities to do eco-location and to retrieve in deep water with getting the bends); and how the military has worked with the dolphins to ensure safety from sea mines.

BASKETBALL ARTCLE IN RAYNHAM CALL
BASKETBALL ARTICLE IN BRIDGEWATER INDEPENDENT
Yes, ladies and gentleman Northbrook Academy Basketball Team is the Christian Athletic Association League Champions. The packed house was thrilled by the “little school on Baker Road”. Final score 37 to 15 but this does not tell the whole story.
Northbrook took the lead with a strong first period performance by Captain Ryan Murray (Bridgewater) six points and seven rebounds to lead the Shamrocks to a seventeen to two lead in the first period. Will Holt (Bridgewater) and Grace Orfanello (East Taunton) lead a strong defensive effort on the boards. Mike Pyne was all over the court leading a fierce fast Shamrock break . When the dust cleared Northbrook had a commanding lead going into the third period. Noah Poole (Bridgewater) and Patrick Korzeniowski (Bridgewater) would not let the lead diminish with both strong efforts. Poole dominate on the defensive boards and Patrick played extremely strong “D” point on offense . Then there was Captain Thomas Conlon (Brockton). Thomas was sick so Coach Harrison decided to hold him back. In the third and fourth quarter Tom scored nine points in a winning effort. Nick Hamilton (Norton) scored his first basket of the season. Nick started as Manager and worked his way up to Varsity as did his friend Ben Willams from West Bridgewater.
Coach Harrison is extremely proud of his “Running Shamrocks” and his little school that can. Northbrook finished their basketball season 13 and 1.
Northbrook Academy would like to thank Coach Walter Korzeniowski for his effort and kindness shown to the “Running Shamrocks”.
