Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When can I apply to Northbrook?
A: Northbrook has a rolling admission policy. We take applications throughout the year, however; because space is limited we encourage you to complete the application process by the Priority Date of January 10th.
Q: What materials do I need in order to apply for admission to Northbrook?
A: You can apply by sending in a completed application form, recommendation letter(s), current transcripts and copies of SSAT results* (and other standardized test scores). .

Q: Why does Northbrook request SSAT results?
A: The results of the SSAT are used at Northbrook for guidance purposes. We understand that not all students are experienced enough with testing to have such a test truly represent their academic achievements; but standardized tests still provide Northbrook with valuable information. For many students the SSAT is the first of many standardized tests they will take along their path through higher education. At Northbrook Academy SSAT tests scores are combined with teacher references and the family interview when considering each students needs and abilities. Please see www.SSAT.org for upcoming testing dates. Please do not delay the application process in order to complete testing. Test results may be copied and mailed to us as soon as your family receives the results.

Q. What is a Northbrook Visit Day?
A. After an application is received, applicants are required to spend a day at Northbrook Academy in order to ensure fit. Students will shadow a current student through a complete day. They should arrive by 7:45AM and plan to stay until first dismissal at 4PM. A Northbrook Visit Day is usually a day that we go across campus for physical educaion. Therefore, a Med/Media/Travel form MUST be completed and brought to school with students on the day of their visit.

Q. What should I bring on a Northbrook Visit Day?
A. Students should wear comfortable neat school attire (clothing without words is preferred) and bring a backpack with a notebook, pencil, a book to read to be used throughout AM classes. They will also need lunch and a snack and they may want a small amount of spending money to buy something at the school store. For physical education they need: sneakers, socks, shorts or sweat pants, and a t-shirt. Don't forget a smile and the willingness to try new things!!

Q. What can I expect at my interview?
A. The interview is for a candidate and their parent(s) and members of the Northbrook Admissions committee. We try to schedule interviews shortly following a Northbrook Visit Day. The interview is the final chance for Admissions and families to determine if a Northbrook Experience would be beneficial. Admissions staff will try to get to know the student and parents better, to clarify expectations and to learn what the candidate will contribute to the community. It is also a great time for families to get answers to any lingering questions. Interviews usually last from 20- 40 minutes and they are scheduled in the evening.

Q: When will we receive our admission decision?
A: Once we have received all of the required items and your child has completed the Northbrook Visit Day and and interview, the admission committee will review all applications received by the priority deadline and will send out decision letters by February 27th or sooner.

Q: My child has been accepted! What is next?
A: A deposit form was attached with your acceptance letter. Please complete the form and send in your deposit to hold your child’s place. You will be contacted to schedule Math and Spanish placement exams, There will be a summer math and reading assignments and just before school opens there will be an orientation/ice-cream social welcome event.
